ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on the assessment of the implication of Fulani herdsmen banditry activities on community settlement using selected local government in Ogun state as case study. To achieve this 3 research objectives were formulated. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of all the residents of Ijeb-Ode North LGA of Ogun State. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposively selected 150 respondents while 100 respondents were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage. The result of the findings reveals that; Fulani herdsmen banditry activities affects community members; The extent to which Fulani herdsmen banditry activities affect community members and settlement is high; Fulani herdsmen banditry activities have an impact on community settlement. Based on the findings, the researcher recommended that Conflict resolution mechanisms, mass orientation, and ranches as the sustainable panaceas to the constant herders men banditry in Nigeria. The paper also recommends that the opponents of ranches should fear nothing but fear itself, because “there is no compulsion in (Islam) religion” (Quran 2:256) – meaning that no Muslim is allowed to force anybody to accept the Islamic faith. Nwobi (2018) affirmed that ranching option and grazing reserves are rejected in the south-east zone because of “the fear of being colonized by the northerners”.
